Italian Club Variety
Genetic improvement and new varieties of table grapes
Seventeen production and marketing companies to finance and manage varietal innovation of table grapes (and others).
Nicola Borracci’s remarkable ability to gather support and trust among the people has given birth to one of his greatest ambitions: to establish a consortium of private and public investors for the creation of new varieties of seedless grapes, the Italian Club Variety, chaired by Borracci himself.
The network, consisting of seventeen companies, was joined by a “Technical Scientific Committee” composed of 5 experts coordinated by prof. Carlo Fideghelli, which aims to increase competitiveness on national and international markets by implementing a genetic improvement program for table grapes, with particular regard to the seedless and drupaceous cultivars. A “Scientific Technical Committee” composed of five experts coordinated by prof. This is the strong signal of the concreteness and ambitions of the Serroplast group and that of the Italian producers who have decided to “take the field” to participate personally in the challenge of varietal and technological innovation in order to guarantee a positive future for our agriculture.
The ITALIAN CLUB VARIETY network started its activity in 2015, launching a series of controlled breeds that included twenty combinations of crosses between unmarried parents and those with seed.
The genetic improvement program also aims to work on genotypes that are highly tolerant or resistant to plant diseases, in the awareness of initiating virtuous pathways for greater crop sustainability and the need to ensure a high quality product in compliance with biology farming practices. and with low environmental impact.
Nicola Borracci has allowed the collaboration between the public and private sector with the ICV, overcoming the impasse between the man player and bringing together some of the scientific and entrepreneurial excellences of the entire south of Italy.
